Coffee Obsessed? It’s Actually Better For You Than You’d Expect

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

So you’re wrecked and the only thing that will keep you on your toes at work for the day is a glorious cup of coffee, or maybe two… or three.

Turns out, even though you’ve been making yourself feel guilty for polishing off that third cup, you’re not doing yourself that much harm according to the American College of Cardiology.

The study on caffeine consumption was carried out by leading cardiologists and it produced surprising results. They found that drinking three cups of coffee a day will not harm your heart.

The study found that consuming three cups a day can lower heart palpitation risks by 13% and can reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Tea also presents the same results, so us Irish will definitely be happy with that one.

Leader of the study, Dr. Peter Kistler believes that antioxidants could be the cause for this phenomenon.

Coffee is a bit of a controversial subject with many people claiming it’s induces heart palpitations. Dr Kristler however, said that caffiene actually blocks a molecule that is connected to heart problems and failure.

“In numerous population-based studies, patients who regularly consume coffee and tea at moderate levels have a lower lifetime risk of developing heart rhythm problems and possibly improved survival.”

Guess you can have another cup of joe so!
