Bertie Ahern Walked Out Of An Interview After An Excruciatingly Awkward Moment

seank

Sometimes you witness something and you just know, in your heart of hearts, that it’ll one day feature in an episode of Reeling In The Years.

This is one such moment.

Recently our former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern sat down for an interview with Tim Sebastian of Crisis Zone, a political show on German TV channel Deutsche Welle.

Crisis Zone is billed as a programme that sets their interviewers “face-to-face with global decision-makers, seeking straight answers to straight questions, putting the spotlight on controversial issues and calling the powerful to account”.

So it’s fair to say that their guests are probably going to be asked the hard questions about their careers — it appears that Bertie did not get the memo.

The ex-Fianna Fáil leader thought he’d been invited purely to discuss his role in the Good Friday Agreement, but things took a turn for the uncomfortable when Sebastian starting probing Ahern about the Mahon tribunal and its findings…

Skip to 21:00 to witness the moment it all went pear-shaped.
