The Rebel County said goodbye to Ed Sheeran last night as he continues on his Irish tour, leaving lasting memories after three amazing gigs at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
For one little girl in particular, it was a weekend to remember forever.
Amelia Phelan, daughter of Vicky Phelan whose cervical cancer case blew open the national scandal around smear test screening, met her idol after last night’s gig in a welcome happy moment for the family.
Vicky took to Twitter to share a photo of Amelia with Ed, captioning the photo:
‘And this happened yesterday. My daughter, Amelia, met her idol, @edsheeran. A massive shout out to my new BFF @willhanafin and @RadioRayRTE for organising this for Amelia. We are “keeping this love in a photograph.” ‘

Earlier in the week Vicky hinted that there was something in the works with Ed, replying “it’s already sorted” to a tweet suggesting Amelia should get to meet the singer.
Forty-three year old Vicky was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer after she was not informed about an incorrect smear test result in 2011.
The Limerick lady was awarded €2.5 million in a High Court settlement against the US lab involved in the scandal.
The HSE has now offered to pay for Vicky’s expensive cancer treatment, which up until now Vicky was paying for herself, at the staggering price of €8,300 every three weeks.
Vicky wrote on Twitter that she is “soaking up every precious minute” after Amelia’s meeting with Ed in Cork.
