Move over, Belfast's Obel Tower. Ireland's new tallest building could be on its way to Cork.
According to the Irish Examiner, US-based Kerry developer Kevin O’Sullivan has bought a site at the Port of Cork and wants to put a 40-storey tower right in the middle of it.
If it goes ahead, the building would overtake the Obel Tower which stands at 28 storeys.
Kevin and his brother Donal moved to New York in 1986 and have been involved in projects such as the Ground Zero Towers, 9/11 Memorial and the famous Apple store on Fifth Avenue.
They now want to put the new tower right where the two channels of the River Lee and aim to make the area a tourist and cultural hub.
The regeneration includes plans for a boardwalk and maybe even a restaurant at the top of the tower with stunning views of the city's quays which would be reached by an external elevator.
It's all happening down in Cork. We can't wait to see how it turns out.
