Explore Éire: Walk Alpacas And Swim Beside A Private Waterfall In This Log Cabin In West Cork

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

Ireland is home to some of the most amazingly unique experiences.

From castles to lighthouses, hobbit holes and pods, we have a lot to choose from when it comes to booking a memorable stay.

On my usual weekly hunt, I came across a DOTEY log cabin in the Cork countryside of Drimoleague.

Nestled in the heart of West Cork, Waterfall Farm is an oasis of tranquillity and also home to some adorable animals.

On-site, there is a herd of alpacas, rescued rabbits (dwarf to giant),  two miniature donkeys, two Shetland ponies, hens, and cats & dogs. You might even spot some of the wildlife like badgers, foxes, hares, pheasants, herons, dippers, a multitude of songbirds.

Steeped in history with its very own Bronze Age Stone Row, a 16th Century Castle nearby and sites of historical interest all around, animal lovers, culture vultures and hikers will all find something of interest here.

There are no chemicals used on the farm with most of the work as possible done by hand.

Cabin guests can participate in a loop walk where the alpaca walks take place. The walk runs along a beautiful river, past pools and cascades, under old Oak and Holly trees and past the spectacular waterfall that gave the farm its name, it is gorgeous at any time of year but especially beautiful when the bluebells are out.

During the summer, the waterfall is the perfect place to go for a dip.

The log cabin is basic but cosy and provides a completely unique experience.

Inside there is a  self contained kitchen and spacious bedsit which can sleep four. There is only one cabin to rent so you will have the farm and walk all to yourselves.

This sounds amazing!
