You Need To Add This Brand New Pub In Co. Clare To Your Summer Bucket List

Alana Laverty

Ah, Ennistymon.

One of the most idyllic and best craic towns in the Wesht – and a great stop for anyone adventuring along the Wild Atlantic Way.

10/10 would recommend to a friend.

The authentic Irish market town made famous by scenes from Father Ted, known for its trad music scene, the beautiful Falls and cascades, traditional shopfronts and horse fairs has a great new addition in the form of a rustic bar.

Say hello to Pot Duggan’s:

The latest venture from the Bodytonic crew, behind Dublin’s Big Grill fest, Beatyard and Eatyard, is very promising and is already drawing huge crowds from near and afar.

Previously known as Ahern’s, the pub itself is a well-known landmark in Ennistymon, a town once famous for having the most pubs per capita in Ireland.

Before the crash, there were 52 pubs in total – now there are only 9.

And Pot Duggan’s is the latest on the scene.

The pub’s reputation more than precedes itself with plenty of entertaining accounts of firm but fair landlady Nan Ahern who made butter and sold it from the snug and of her father who held cattle marts in the courtyard in the 50’s when he ran the pub.

Legends.

An original sign hangs in the bathroom now warning “the owner of the premises will not be responsible for any lost, stolen or strayed stock”.

Nan was also renowned for hosting serious hoolies in the basement until all hours.

The pub had its official launch at the weekend, and it was quite the hoolie.

The Bodytonic crew have done their utmost to keep the character of the pub alive, and even had a local who pulled the last pint in Ahern’s pull the first pint in Duggan’s.

They’ve a short, concise menu that concentrates on great quality ingredients and there’s always something in the pot. Check out the full menu here.

In terms of frosty ones, they’ve got Guinness, 5 Lamps Lager, Brewtonic & Bulmers and a rotational range of craft, gluten free, low ABV and endless other beers and ciders.

Their cocktails include the West Clare Julep, Michael Collins and Marmalade Whiskey Sour.

There are plans afoot for markets, food events, music, BBQs in the courtyard and the pub will, of course, be hosting lots of Bodytonic fun, frolics and plenty of local craic.
