You guys know by now that gin is my one true love in life.

A few weeks back my boyfriend and I hopped in his camper van and headed to Galway city for a day of adventure. Galway is such a cool city full of life, culture, music and colour. We went to the aquarium, drank tea in Cupan Tae and of course headed to The Dough bros for some cheesy goodness.

During the day we stopped off in one of the coolest places I’ve visited in quite some time – Oslo Bar.

The bar is huge, there’s food, a huge screen for matches, pool tables and just a deadly atmosphere in general. The best part of all however, is that there is a gin and potín distillery tucked away upstairs.

Say hello to Micil Distillery!

Micil Distillery is the product of five generations of distillation.

Great news! Micil Distillery is hiring again! • We’re looking for a full-time employee to help run our newly opened visitor centre, manage bookings, and oversee our distillery tours and tastings. • We need a self-motivated individual who can help grow our existing business, develop further links with hospitality companies and tour operators, and promote us to the public on social media. You need to be capable of running the visitor centre, delivering quality tours, and helping to hire and run a small crew to assist you in this. • The ideal candidate will have experience in public speaking, and be self-confident and capable of delivering interesting, enthusiastic distillery tours to groups of visitors several times a day (full training will obviously be provided). • Enthusiasm, friendliness and honesty are of utmost importance, as these are the ideals we’ve built our business on. We’re looking for somebody who enjoys entertaining other people and who understands that giving each and every customer an unforgettable experience always comes first. • Bar/cocktail/mixology experience is a huge plus, as is a knowledge of/interest in spirits. Some Irish would be great, but is not strictly necessary. We need a highly reliable individual who will turn up enthusiastic and ready to work on time, every time. If this is not you then please don’t apply, it’s not fair on anyone. • This is a wonderful career opportunity for someone who wants to join a small but growing team in a fun business environment in a working distillery. We work hard, but believe in trying to have fun while doing so. We’re looking for hardworking, enthusiastic people who want to grow with us. Please email C.V and cover letter to info@micil.ie. #jobs #distillery #micil #micildistillery #micilpoitin #micilgin #micilgin #Galway #wildatlanticway

Every bottle is carefully handcrafted in the micro-distillery in Galway using 100% Irish grain and bogbean botanical. From its initial hint of spice, honey and lightly toasted malt through to its smooth velvety finish, this is a poitín to truly savour.

Micil Distillery is the first legal distillery to open in Galway in over 100 years, and remains the only operating distillery in the entire county, the product of six generations of craft experience.

The tour focuses on the story of how Micil Distillery came to be, from the original founder Micil Chearra who started with a small stillhouse in the hills of South Connemara to the current head distiller, his great-great-great-grandson Pádraic.

You’ll learn the real history of poitín and gin, how they’re made, and what makes our own products so unique.

You’ll experience the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a working distillery, hear some interesting, funny and daring stories, and get to taste for yourself the products we continue to make in a time-honoured tradition: spirits steeped in heritage, yet of their time.

If you’re gin obsessed like I am, you’ll absolutely love this tour. I found it so interesting, informative and the intimate setting allowed me to really get a feel for Micil Gin.

Pádraic is a fountain of knowledge and he was super sound, answering the millions of questions I had.

We even got to taste the gin and poitín during the tour so I was happy out sipping away.

Deffo one to add to the bucket list if you’re in or around the Galway area.
