Here’s when the Galway Christmas Market will return to Eyre Square

Brian Dillon

A Christmas market is one of our favourite ways to get festive in the lead up to the big day.

So obviously, we are buzzing for the fabulous Christmas market that is set to take over Eyre Square in the most festive way ever.

Galway Tourism recently announced the dates of this year’s market. They wrote, “The Galway Continental Christmas Market makes its return to the City Of The Tribes from 6pm on Friday 15th November until Sunday 22nd December 2019.”

Last year, the market received over half a million visitors.

Over 50 wooden chalets took over Eyre Square in Galway City Centre, with Santa’s Grotto, the German Bier Keller and many other features popping up.

With 2019 marking the tenth year of the wonderfully magical market, there are a number of highlights we are buzzing to see return.

This year’s market will feature an array of funfair rides, including a 32 metre high Big Wheel. There will also be an Après Ski Bar, as well as Santa’s Express Train.

There will also be plenty of live entertainment, such as puppet shows, storytelling, school choirs and carol singing, to name a few.

One of the main attractions we are excited for is obviously the return of the main man himself, Father Christmas and his grotto, which will be run by local charities.

Foodies are also in for a treat. This year’s market will give visitors the chance to enjoy a wide range of delicious bites such as Bratwurst, French pastries, pretzels, confectionery, crêpes and waffles.

If you’re in the market for a drink or two while visiting the market, the German Bierkeller will be offering a range of traditional German beers as well as apple cider and mulled wine.

After you’ve enjoyed all the food and drink, you can take a stroll through the enchanted light gardens, and of course, get that Insta-worthy pic. There’ll also be the opportunity to post a letter to Santa here.
