Planning For Father’s Day? This Galway Event Is For A Brilliant Cause

James Fenton

Father’s Day is nearly here and in keeping with tradition, most of us will forget until the day actually arrives.

If you do want to be organised this year though, remember that this year’s dad dedication day is Sunday June 16 and those in the Galway area can take part in a fun event for a great cause.

Fly A Kite For Mental Health is organised in aid of youth mental health charity Jigsaw and pretty invites people to do exactly what it says on the tin.

Taking place at South Park in the city, participants will be able to create a powerful visual spectacle of support for men and boys who may be experiencing mental health issues.

Kites will be available on the day or, alternatively, you can bring your own. It is hoped that there will be 300 kites in the sky, as organiser Stephen Walton explains: ‘this event is hoping to shine more light on men’s emotional needs and by flying a kite together on Fathers’ Day, we can help to begin conversations among people to show that there is hope, there is a way things can get better and that not being OK or even happy is completely normal.’

Of course, if you don’t fancy flying a kite yourself, you can always just come along and enjoy the spectacle. The event will begin at 12 noon and will last for about an hour. More information can be found here.
