A bottlenose dolphin was spotted enjoying the sunshine in Galway Bay yesterday, delighting locals who were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the animal frolicking in the sea.
Managing to capture the magical moment on camera, local man Steve Sweeney’s video has been doing the rounds online. Showing the animal gracefully breaching the surface of the water, the dolphin doesn’t seem at all phased by having an audience, putting on quite the performance for awe-stricken onlookers.

Some have questioned whether the animal could in fact be the famous Fungie, who has been missing in action since late last year. However, while many would like to believe that it is the Dingle legend, it seems more likely to presume that it’s actually the City of Tribe’s own resident dolphin, fondly known as Nimmo.
Often spotted out enjoying the Galway coastline, Nimmo first came to the attention of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group back in 2015 with sightings being recorded each year since.
