When thinking of glam places to stay in Ireland one hotel in particular will always stand out.
the g Hotel & Spa in Galway opened back in 2005 and is designed around the sea – a huge part of Galway’s culture and beauty.
Philip Treacy, milliner to royalty and Hollywood stars, is the creative genius behind the g‘s unique design – every last element has been thought out to the highest degree.
From the moment you step inside the g Hotel, you just know that you’ve arrived at a very special place.
The dark and intimate reception area sets the tone, with black glass walls acting as a frame for a tank of Connemara-bred seahorses and includes a bespoke concierge wall, covered in white Venetian plaster – reminiscent of a seashell.
A truly stunning first impression.
The art and imagery gracing the hotel’s walls is some of the best in the county and lends more to the artsy and interesting vibes.
You will also see over 200 twinkling mirrored lights in the Grand Salon alluding to the bubbles in water and the shimmering silver wall tile feature is reminiscent of the patterns you see in sand and the ripples of the water.
How cool are the ocean vibes? They allow you to utterly relax and unwind in the g’s beautiful surrounding.
Even the bedrooms have under-the-sea designs – the shell shaped door handles in particular are class.
Our room was a total dream – absolutely enormous with incredible views of Galway and even had a telly above the bath!
The hotel is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Walking down its long pink-carpeted corridor to peer into each Philip Treacy-designed reception/lounge room is like opening presents on Christmas day.
You never know what you’re going to get in the next one – but you’re never disappointed.
Light piano music permeates the air and people are set around the various rooms enjoying cocktails and delish-smelling food.
And let me tell you – their food is second to none.
From the impressive self-serve hotel brekkie (fruit, cereals, meats, cheese and fry-up components) and their hot, gourmet breakfast menu to their stunning evening menu in Restaurant gigi’s – the food here is phenom.
All food is inspired by local ingredients and seasonal produce.
Restaurant gigi’s has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence for the past 5 years which is a testament to the quality of restaurant and passion of Head Chef Jason O’Neill and his team.
The beautifully designed restaurant also won Best Hotel Restaurant in Galway at the 2016 Restaurant Awards.
If you feel like treating yourself to something super yummy and super pretty, then look no further than the g Hotel’s afternoon tea.
You can opt for tea or bubbles, but as we were driving back to Dubin we stuck with the tae, sure you can’t bate it.
As far as afternoon teas go – this is up there with one of the best we’ve ever tried.
Teeny tiny, carefully thought out, sumptuous savoury and sweet bites – the dream.
The tea stand was empty in the blink of an eye.
Thermal Suite and spa
In three words, the Thermal Suite is like a relaxing black vortex cocoon.
Black walls, black floors, black heated loungers, black everythang with white birds floating throughout.
It’s only a tenner in for hotel residents, so needless to say we were happy out with our bargain, but super fancy, spa day.
It has everything – a vitality hydro pool with water therapy jets and jacuzzi effects, a crystal steam room, lifestyle rain showers, a rock sauna, an ice fountain and tepidarium heated loungers.
You’ll feel like a new human being after a visit here.
Add a stay in the g to your bucket-list and thank us later.
