Several houses in Rathangan, County Kildare were evacuated this at roughly 9am this morning after a suspected bomb was spotted by a postman outside of a premises.
Gardaí and the bomb squad rushed to the discovery of the device, with local Rathangan man, Dermot O’Shea, describing to Kildare Now “a sense of shock in the area”.
A Garda spokesman said:
“Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident, believed to involve an explosive device, on Bridge Street outside a premises in Rathangan, County Kildare. Army EOD have been contacted and are en route. A number of houses have been evacuated in the area, no further information at the moment.”
The device was ultimately deemed safe – and turned out to be a “pin” from a tractor tow bar, according to Gardaí.
