A 21-year-old man has taken riding in style to new limits.

On July 4 2016, Darren O’Loughlin was seen hanging off the roof of a taxi in Limerick city while his partner was inside the vehicle.

Gardaí followed the taxi to Henry Street Garda station, where the man “jumped from the roof,” according to Inspector John Moloney.

Inspector John Moloney told Limerick District Court that “he was hanging onto the roof of a moving taxi,” and it became clear that he was “extremely intoxicated and abusive”.

O’Loughlin damaged the taxi sign on the vehicle when jumping off the roof, and was arrested last Saturday following the incident.

O’Loughlin, who has 12 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to several counts from that night. He was kept on bail €300, and the whole experience has been an “eye-opener for him,” according to his solicitor.
