WATCH: Mayo GAA Players Sing Amazing Rendition Of Garth Brooks Classic Following Defeat

Darragh Berry

Following Mayo GAA is a rollercoaster of emotion.

Mayo fans have been absolutely blessed with the highs that this group of players has reached since 2011 – a period where they got to four All-Ireland Finals and hadn’t been knocked out before the Semi-Final stage.

Of course, one high that always remained out of reach in this time was Sam Maguire and 2018 will not be their year either.

Mayo were knocked out by Kildare in the third round of the qualifiers following a week of the NewbridgeOrNowhere debacle.

They gave it their all, like they have done since the start of the decade and proof of this was Diarmuid O’Connor hobbling towards a ball, picking it up and passing it off before heading straight for the ground with cramp at the end of the game.

An updated description of literally emptying the tank.

Some of the Mayo GAA boys were in Matt Molloy’s in Westport in the following days and their voices were on form as Aidan O’Shea led a super rendition of ‘The River’ by Garth Brooks as Cillian O’Connor, Jason Doherty, Donie Vaughan and co helped him out with the backing vocals.

Including a key change and everything, the Mayo team perfectly nail this song.

It’s been doing the rounds on Whatsapp but if anyone knows the real owner, we’d love to credit them.

And there is absolutely no doubt that this group of players will sail their vessel until the river runs dry.
