American Tourist Finds €50,000 Worth Of Cocaine On Irish Beach

James Fenton

We feel like we’ve seen this in a film somewhere… Anyone?

In a case of life imitating art, an American tourist has stumbled upon a €50,000 bag of cocaine near the Minaun Cliffs on Achill Island, Co Mayo.

The drugs were covered in plastic and taped up. Tommy Schlather, the man who uncovered the haul told the Irish Mirror:

“I was walking on the beach and was sitting on the rocks when I noticed the item.

“It was maybe the size of an old cassette tape and covered in black and yellow tape. I wasn’t sure what it was at first but when I had a closer look I had a fair idea.”

Tommy’s relatives, who live nearby, contacted the Gardaí who confirmed that the bag contained about 1kg of cocaine.

We can’t confirm anything but maybe the two lads from acclaimed Irish comedy The Young Offenders had something to do with it?
