Mayo’s historical Bridgemount House has been seriously damaged in an overnight fire.
Mayo Fire Brigade were called to the “architectural treasure” at Belcarra near Castlebar on Tuesday evening, May 5, and battled the blaze overnight.
They were called by the current occupiers of the house who managed to escape uninjured after smelling smoke.

Bridgemount House was home to the Acton family in the 19th century and was also former home to Dame Judy Coyne.
Gardaà are investigating the cause of the fire.
