The Dower House Of Kilkenny Castle Should Be Your Next Weekend Break

Kilkenny is one of those spots you just have to visit for a weekend break away in Ireland. The city may be small but there is much to do and see, plus the nightlife is said to be one of the best in the country.

I however, took a trip to Kilkenny with the intention to kick up my feet in the evening apply a face mask and relax to the max. With this in mind, I really didn’t want to travel too far for my dinner either.

Butler House on Patrick Street ticked all of those boxes. In fact, I didn’t even have to leave the building to avail of a top-class meal.

I ate in the Tea Room which overlooks the gardens of the property. In my view was a pond with remnants of Nelson’s Pillar, which wasn’t just really cool to see, but also tied in with the classic and historic style of the site.

I had scallops for starter, which almost melted in my mouth — cooked to perfection. I continued my fish buzz by having a sea bass for mains. The real treat however, was the treat itself — Valrhona chocolate mousse with honeycomb and star anise coulis for dessert. 

This was a chocolate lovers dream and I, being one of those, was raging I had left so little stomach space for it after polishing off my main. The small piece I did have however, was delectable. 

As the Dower House of Kilkenny Castle, Butler House is in an ideal location with Kilkenny Design and Kilkenny Castle situated right beside its gardens. It was so handy to be able to walk right into the heart of the town without any hassle or booking taxis. 

The room I stayed in was spacious and bright. It was located on the top floor so I had a great view of the gardens and Kilkenny Castle from my window. 

During my stay here I felt pure fancy. So if you’re looking to go to Kilkenny for a wild hen or stag, this is probably not the right spot for you. It is more suited to those who want to chill and have afternoon tea. 

It is definitely the perfect spot however, for your next relaxing weekend break in Ireland.
