The lives of more than 70 donkeys in Donegal have been saved, thanks to a public appeal.
Their lives were in danger after the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary was faced with a financial crisis and owners thought they would have to shut doors.
The centre made an emotional plea on Facebook on Monday and since then, the public have raised a whopping €40,000 for the cause.
The centre, which opened in 2006, has helped rehabilitate and rehome more than 600 donkeys.
The money will help secure Donegal Donkey Sanctuary’s future for a number of months and prevent closure.
The sanctuary has been in a bad financial situation because they lost corporate sponsorship from three separate firms who were badly affected by the recession.
