This Irish Restaurant Owner Is Doing Something Sound For The Homeless

Sharron

We could all take a leaf out of Gill’s book.

She’s the owner of 56 Central Restaurant on Shop Street in Galway and has decided to train the homeless in her area to become future chefs.

Along with her Head Chef at the restaurant, Vicky Donley, she’s developed ‘The Positive Placement Project’ which’ll take on clients of the Simon Community and teach them about the world of cooking.

They’re hoping their pupils will gain the skills needed to gain future employment in the industry.

The pair decided to undergo this initiative after they noticed that kitchens around the country were finding it difficult to hire qualified chefs.

They’re also holding a ‘Call to Action’ Dinner Party in the restaurant on Saturday 30th September to showcase the skills learnt by the members from the Galway Simon Community Youth Service.

The three course meal will cost you €50 and all proceeds will go towards the Sleep Out for Simon on October 6th.
