Tipperary Bucket List: 11 Things To Do In This Stunningly Beautiful Part Of The Country

Brian Dillon

tipperary bucket list

Looking for unspoiled Irish nature? Or maybe you’re in the mood for some fascinating ancient Irish history? Well, Tipperary should be your next trip away.

Of course, we’re talking about Tipperary.

In a recent article, we wrote about the Rock on Thorabh Loop Walk in the Glen of Aherlow and told you exactly why it should be the destination of your next short break. With breathtaking scenic views and a walking trail leading through rich and lush forest, it’s the perfect way to get connected to nature, rejuvenate the mind and body and remind yourself of the overwhelming beauty that surrounds us on this glorious island.

The looped walk takes you up and around Slievenamuck, also known as the ‘Mountain of the Pigs’.

Situated in the lush valley of the River Aherlow, which runs between the Galtee Mountains and the wooded ridge of Slievenamuck, it’s just what the doctor ordered when it comes to taking a short break away from your busy life.

So, here are some other things to do and see (and of course eat) while on your short break away in this stunning area of Ireland’s Ancient East.

Stay at Aherlow House Hotel

Aherlow House Hotel prides itself on being “more than just a hotel”.

Combine friendly staff, incredible views and luxury accommodation and you get this place.

Their Muskry suite is complete with an antique four-poster bed, free-standing claw bath, relaxation area and amazing views of Glen of Aherlow.

Meanwhile, their superior luxury room allows you to wake up to amazing views of the Galtee Mountains.

There is also their Scandinavian Lodges, which are self-catering lodges situated on the grounds of the hotel. Each lodge has three bedrooms, a fully functional kitchen and a spacious living room that opens onto a private outdoor deck.

During your stay, you can enjoy afternoon tea in the dedicated tearoom or experience some fine dining in their Tree Top Restaurant.

Meanwhile, there is also the opportunity to stay in the caravan and camping park, which caters for tents, motorhomes and caravans.

Or, you can also stay in their self-catering cottages, which are converted 18th century stone stables.
