Portroe Quarry in Tipperary Is The Ultimate Place To Explore This Summer

Lovin' Media

Ireland has some of the most incredible sights, but it’s the ones that aren’t crowded with tourists that are my favourite.

Tucked away in the humble county of Tipp is one of the most insane places in the country. You may have seen a few pictures of this place circulating due to its crystal blue waters and unusual surroundings.

Portroe Quarry needs to be on every Irish bucket list.

The site, now a dive centre, has so much to offer.

As much as I’d like to give you a brief history and a little scéal, I feel the pictures will do the talking here:

Like… can you cope with this majestic blue lagoon?

Under the water you’ll see two car wrecks and an underwater pub as well as building equipment, old wheels and kayaks.

The quarry’s original entry ramp remains intact and it’s picturesque.

Dives cost €20 for a day and €10 for anyone arriving after 2pm. The quarry is open every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

All divers have access to changing rooms with hot tea and coffee. Next to the changing room, there’s a sheltered area where you can comfortably gear up away from sun or rain.

Don’t worry if you’re not into diving – you can still pay in to take in the wonderful sights!
