If you’re in the Déise County any time soon, be sure to make room in your itinerary for Mount Congreve Gardens.
Located just outside of Kilmeaden, the grounds are home to so many little gems, it’s hard to list them all. Take for example, the Chinese Padoga which takes centre stage in an old quarry in the middle of the gardens.
Photo opportunities come thick and fast as you make your way through and visitors are always taken aback when they come across the temple which houses the ashes of Ambrose Congreve, the mastermind behind this stunning site, who passed away in 2011.
The vast gardens comprise 70 acres of woodland and delicately-planted trees and flowers. You can easily pass a couple of hours ambling through the area, stopping to take in the countless wonders lying within, like this peaceful rock waterfall.
Mount Congreve stands alongside the Waterford Greenway so is easily accessible if you’re out cycling for the day. While there, you’ll have to get a snap of the main house, which has been standing since the 1750s.
Another thing to check out is the Georgian glasshouse which stretches across the lawns and contains countless plants that will excite professional and amateur botanists alike.
What’s a day out without a nice cup of coffee to finish it off and in the café you’ll find just that along with teas, paninis and soups. The perfect way to wind down the perfect day out in Co. Waterford.
