The sun has finally made an appearance and that means one thing – food and drinks in the sunshine, and plenty of it.
But it can be hard to find a place that’s not absolutely packed from the early afternoon, and in my eyes, grabbing a good spot in the sun with ample seating for everyone is a must.
That’s why my go-to any time I’m visiting my parents in Gorey, Co Wexford has to be the gorgeous terrace at The Duck Restaurant & Café at Marlfield House, just a few minutes outside of town.
As soon as you enter the gates and head down the driveway towards The Duck’s courtyard, you already feel as if you’re a million miles from the hustle and bustle of town.
The Duck is situated inside an old restored coach house, with its cute courtyard filled with tables outside making it a perfect little suntrap on sunny days.
They have a fab cocktail menu, too – my favourites are the Rhubarb Pisco Sour Blush and the Not So Ugly, a really refreshing gin cocktail made with Limoncello.

You can stretch your legs by taking a wander around Marlfield House’s stunning gardens – and see how many peacocks you can spot along the way.
If you’re feeling hungry, the food here is also unreal – they do a lunch special with a starter and main for €26 per person, where you can choose from plenty of seafood as well as burgers, flatbreads and veggie options on the menu.
Granted, this place is a little on the pricier side, but the surroundings are absolutely stunning and it’s a fab way to while away a chilled out afternoon in the sun if you’re looking to treat yourself.
