Woman (60s) Struck And Killed After Chasing Dog Onto Train Tracks

A woman, believed to have been in her 60s, has died after being struck by a train in Co. Mayo.

The tragic incident happened at Knockshambally, near Straide, at around 11:30am yesterday, Saturday.

It is believed the woman was struck by the Ballina to Dublin passenger train when she chased her dog onto the tracks after it broke free.

The woman was removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardaí and Irish Rail personnel have launched an investigation into the incident.
