Some things just make sense, and this is one of them.
On Tuesday morning, leader of Sinn Féin Mary Lou McDonald appeared on Good Morning Britain alongside Love Island alum Shaughna Phillips (they were on the show separately to discuss very separate issues, but in my mind they were there to announce their PLT collab).
Shaughna took the opportunity to share a snap of herself and the “president” of Sinn Féin, declaring her an “absolute delight”, and naturally, I’ve thought of nothing other than Mary Lou sauntering through the villa doors in cork wedges and a sarong ever since.

Now, for your consideration, here’s our 5-point argument for why Mary Lou McDonald should be on Love Island 2022.
She’ll bring the drama
Like Maura Higgins and Olivia Attwood before her, there’s no doubt Mary Lou would provide ample drama and explosive moments after getting those two (2) assigned nightly drinks into her. Her arguments would be concise, based in fact and delivered with finesse – Destiny’s Chaldish left reeling.

Potential blazer line for PLT
Mary Lou rocks a blazer in a way that reminds us of a young Molly Mae – without the questionable hot takes on work ethic and how many hours there are in a day.

Introduce the concept of a United Ireland into the mainstream media
The Love Island audience are powerful. If anyone can make this happen, it’s them.

The hideaway could be used as an affordable housing unit
The fact that it’s left vacant for such long periods of time is simply unacceptable. Mary Lou would ensure a deserving family are moved in, with potential to be cast as Aftersun presenters if they’re interested.
Abolishment of the food challenge
If the mounting number of Ofcom complaints won’t put an end to this horrific event, we’re sure Mary Lou will make it happen.

We can expect the official cast to be revealed any day now – we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for that sensible bob.
