A Dark Version Of ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ Is Coming To Netflix

James Fenton

90’s kids have fond memories of growing up watching ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ and we may not have to wait long to reacquaint ourselves with the magical heroine.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has picked up a two-season small screen version of the Archie Comic novel ‘The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina’.

Before you get too excited, it’s important to note that the new series is unlikely to feature the loveable buffoonery of Harvey Kinkle or the wisecracks of Salem The Cat as it’s set to be a much darker affair.

The publication describes the project as:

“A dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft.

“It’s described as in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

Sounds like a similar tone to ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ if you ask us. Sources say that a list of actresses for the lead role but let’s be honest, none will ever compare in our eyes to Melissa Joan Hart.

It’s hoped that shooting of the new series gets underway in February 2018 and we can’t wait. Let’s celebrate by watching Sabrina and Libby fight in a pool while wearing debs dresses.
