Tallaght comedian Al Porter will take up the role of Today FM’s lunchtime presenter, the station announced this morning.
The news broke via a live Facebook stream of the Dermot and Dave show and it’s fair to say Al was beside himself with glee:
Here’s the best of the online reaction as people have expressed mixed feelings on the appointment of the 24-year-old funnyman:
Huge coup for @todayfm getting the brilliant @TheAlPorter funny or serious he can do it all! #alporter #todayfm

Well that’s @todayfm gone off the car’s radio. Anton is gone, D&D are in the wrong time slot and now Al Porter? Sorry just not my cup of tea

Don’t get Al Porter’s appeal but didn’t get Anton Savages either so I must be completely out of touch re radio programming

Dermot & Dave and now Al Porter on @todayfm playing all the same music trying “banter” their way through the week. Nope. Awful radio.

Nothing against Al Porter, but Paula McSweeney was robbed! #todayfm

Al Porter is the new lunchtime Today FM presenter, the final nail in the coffin. Such a decline from the Ray and JP glory days

Like it or not, Al will be on the airwaves every weekday lunchtime from February 13th. He certainly seems delighted at the news even if the begrudgers aren’t
Delighted is an understatement!! Can’t wait to join the @todayfm family and chat to you at lunchtime! pic.twitter.com/d8cudc8NiK

To be fair, if Al’s as funny on radio as he is on stage, we reckon he’ll be alright.
