An Irish Couple Created A Wearable Safety Alarm For Female Runners

Sarah

An Irish couple have created a new safety device for runners, with a particular focus on safety for women who are jogging alone.

Run angel is a wearable wristband with an accompanying app, that emits a 120dB high-pitch audible alarm (as loud as a rock concert!), and pairs with smartphone devices over Bluetooth to send alerts by SMS and emails to loved ones in the event of an emergency

Founded by a husband and wife in Cork, who are a “friendly bunch of runners who believe that your safety is more important than the number of steps you take”, Run Angel allows you to set up ‘guardians’, who will receive an instant text and email notification with a location, time and date stamp when the alarm button is pressed.

The company also says that Run Angel “can benefit all those you care about, other lifestyle pursuits, college students, night shift workers, an elderly relative living on their own, or if you find yourself in a situation where you are coming home alone after being out with friends.”

The product is available to buy online here for €99, and will be in Irish shops in a few weeks.
