This is bound to stop any home team in their tracks, they’re going to be so distracted looking at this during games.
Bob Marley has become a bit of a Bohemians boy since his mural was unveiled outside of the pitch at the start of the year.
His image is perched up alongside Phil Lynott, both of whom have graced the pitches of Dalymount Park.
Not for footballing reasons, but music reasons.
Marley took to the stage in July 1980 and tickets were just £7 to see him and the Wailer bang out some classics.
Well, he has been commemorated again by the club who have announced that he will be on the front of their away jersey.
Announcing the new jersey, they said that:
“Bohemian FC is delighted to reveal our 2019 O’Neills away jersey, which is now available for pre-sale order in time for Christmas.
“Dalymount Park has played a unique part – chiefly in the sporting – but also in the musical and cultural history of Ireland.
“The Home of Irish Football was graced in the 1970s by Thin Lizzy and the Boomtown Rats, in the 1980s by Bob Marley, Meatloaf and Black Sabbath, and in the 1990s by Faith No More, Sonic Youth, Ice Cube and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“This jersey, designed by Bohemian FC in conjunction with our new kit supplier O’Neills, gives a nod to that history – and to the stadium’s special place in the hearts of both football and music fans.
“A limited supply of the jerseys are now available for pre-order with an expected delivery time of the second week of December in time for Christmas shoppers.
“Priced at €49 for children and €59 for adults, pre-orders can be made online at shop.bohemians.ie and directly from Dalymount Park at tomorrow’s Uefa Youth League game against FC Midtjylland and Friday’s final SSE Airtricity League game against Dundalk.
“Modelling the new jersey alongside Bohs player Rob Cornwall, comedian and recent Bohs convert PJ Gallagher said: “I love the new Bohs jersey. It’s a great design and it’s always great to see Dublin’s best club find new ways to celebrate their history and that of the Home of Irish Football.
“To be honest I was hoping for a Johnny Logan jersey but maybe that’ll be next season. What’s another year?”
“Additional photos of the jersey, courtesy of wardublin.com, can be downloaded here.”
So don’t be surprised in the future if you see Bob Geldof, the NWA rapper or even Anthony Kiedis on an alternative kit next year.
