Colin Farrell is being tipped for an iconic Batman villain role

Colin Farell is in line to play The Penguin in the upcoming movie The Batman, according to reports.

The film already has some of its major parts filled with Robert Pattinson confirmed to play the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz playing Catwoman and Paul Dano signed up to play The Riddler.

According to Variety, Farrell is being eyed up to play Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, AKA The Penguin. The character has previously been portrayed on the big screen by Danny DeVito in 1992’s Batman Returns. 

Along with Farrell, the production is also in talks with Andy Serkis for the role of Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth while Matthew McConaughey is wanted to play Harvey Dent.

Farrell most recently starred in Dumbo as Holt Farrier and will next be seen alongside Jessica Chastain in the thriller Eve. The Castleknock man shot to fame in the late 1990s after appearing in Tigerland and went on to star in Minority Report, Phone Booth and Daredevil during his early career. More recently, he has received rave reviews for his roles in movies such as The Lobster and The Killing Of The Sacred Deer. 

The Batman will be directed by Matt Reeves, who has previously been at the helm of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and its sequel War For The Planet Of The Apes. It is due for release on the United States on June 25 2021.
