Ed Sheeran Being Sued €100m For Allegedly Ripping Off This Famous Song

Darragh Berry

There is only so many chords in music and only so many patterns that a musician can follow. So, it’s easy to see how songs could sound like each other but Ed Sheeran’s hit ‘Thinking Out Loud’ just sounds a bit too familiar.

Sky News is reporting that the singer is facing a €100m lawsuit for allegedly taking parts from Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’.

According to legal documents lodged in New York, Sheeran’s song rips off the “melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping” of Gaye’s song – i.e basically the whole fecking song.

The claim has been made by a company who own part of Gaye’s hits.

This is the second time that Sheeran has been accused of ripping off Gaye’s song as the co-writer’s family of ‘Let’s Get It On’, a man called Edward Townsend, also made the same accusation which Sheeran denied.

Be the judge of it yourself here:

“So baby now…let’s get it on”.
