Gardaí Stop For A Pray At Ireland’s Most Famous House After Busy Week At The Office

James Fenton

It’s fair to say that Craggy Island Parochial House had its fair share of high-profile visitors during Father Ted‘s run. There was famous romance novelist Polly Clarke for one. Entertainer Eoin McLove once dropped in for visit only, attracting hundreds of elderly women to descend on the residence. Even Henry Sellers, the self-credited brains behind the BBC once came to stay.

While Mrs. Doyle has poured tea for all the above and plenty more, she never got to roll out the red carpet for an American Vice-President but the current incumbent wasn’t too far away this week. Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s second-in-command came to Ireland earlier this week, sparking a massive security operation around Co. Clare and beyond.

Now that he’s departed for Washington, the Gardaí that were tasked with keeping him safe are enjoying hard-earned break so where else would the go except the most famous gaff in the county?

A picture was posted by the Garda Twitter account which shows no fewer than 15 members of the Garda Roads Policing Escort Unit stopping for a bit of an aul’ pray Father Ted’s house which wouldn’t be a million miles away from Pence’s Doonbeg accommodation.

There’ll be no more whistles stolen around those parts with that amount of Gardaí there.
