Grab Some Popcorn! – Here’s What’s New To Netflix This Weekend

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

It’s hard to imagine what we did on stormy evenings like today before Netflix.

Yes, Storm Hannah was knocking on everyone’s window last night and let’s be real, it’s still pretty crappy today. All the more excuses to curl up and have a cosy and easy weekend.

So grab a few treats, curl up and check out the newest releases to Netflix before anyone else.

Here’s what’s new this weekend:

Chambers

A young heart attack survivor becomes consumed by the mystery surrounding the heart that saved her life. However, the closer she gets to uncovering the truth about her donor’s sudden death, the more she starts taking on the characteristics of the deceased — some of which are troublingly sinister.     Taking place in a mystic, New Age pocket of Arizona, Chambers is a psychological horror story that explores the different ways we metabolize trauma. But what starts out as a grounded human story eventually pivots into something far more strange and more messed up than you were expecting.   The series stars Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction), Tony Goldwyn (Scandal, Insurgent), Sivan Alyra Rose (The Entrada, Running Shadow), Lilliya Reid (Vienna, The Fantomes), Nicholas Galitzine (Share, Handsome Devil, The Watcher In The Woods, The Beat Beneath My Feet and The Changeover), Kyanna Simone Simpson (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Black Lightning, White Boy Rick & Ma), Lilli Kay (Paterno, Napoli, Brooklyn), Sarah Mezzanotte (The Wolves, Six Degrees of Separation, Blame, Blue Bloods, Royal Pains) and introducing Griffin Powell-Arcand.

Bonding

Chains, whips and hilarious quips! For New York City grad student/dominatrix Tiff (Zoe Levin) and her cash-strapped gay best friend from high school Pete (Brendan Scannell), S&M is a business, not a pleasure. Well, maybe there’s a little pleasure. Their professional relationship redefines their friendship, but more importantly helps them find themselves.

Street Food

From the creators of Chef’s Table, Street Food takes viewers to some of the world’s most vibrant cities to explore the rich culture of street food all over the globe. Season one explores nine countries across Asia, from the hawker stalls of Singapore to the food carts of India. Each episode highlights the stories of perseverance and culture that bring life to each country’s cuisine.

ReMastered: Devil at the Crossroads

The Music You Know. The Stories You Don’t. Netflix’s Original Documentary Series, ReMastered, investigates high-profile events affecting some of the most legendary names in music presenting groundbreaking discoveries and insights beyond what’s been previously reported.  Robert Johnson was one of the most influential blues guitarists ever. Even before his early death, fans wondered if he’d made a pact with the Devil.

The Protector: Season 2

Baywatch

Directed by Seth Gordon Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Priyanka Chopra, Jon Bass, Ilfenesh Hadera

Aurora

A fatal shipwreck spurs an islander innkeeper and her sister to recover the missing victims’ bodies — until the dead come seeking shelter themselves.

Anthony Jeselnik: Fire in the Maternity Ward (30/40/2019)

Everyone knows there is no topic Anthony Jeselnik can’t conquer, and he doesn’t disappoint in his second Netflix original comedy special Anthony Jeselnik: Fire in the Maternity Ward. Following his 2015 special Thoughts and Prayers, the comedian’s critical and biting style weaves through societal taboos without hesitation.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Season 2

A reimagining of the ‘80s hit series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is the story of an orphaned princess named Adora, who leaves behind her former life in the evil Horde when she discovers a magic sword that transforms her into the legendary warrior She-Ra. Along the way, she finds a new surrogate family in the Rebellion as she unites a group of magical princesses in the ultimate fight against evil.
