The Ten Greatest Irish Songs Of All Time Have Been Revealed

Darragh Berry

We’ve often thought about it but the only thing that stops us is thinking about where to start.

Ireland has produced some of the greatest musicians and songwriters of the past 60 years and it just wouldn’t be fair to leave some of the greatest songs out of the top ten of all time.

But, Classic Hits 4FM have broken water where no man or woman have dared swim before.

PJ Gallagher and Jim McCabe asked their breakfast show listeners to vote for their favourite Irish song of all time this week and no matter how many of these songs you like, you won’t agree with this list.

You just won’t. You’ll either disagree about the order or about the songs that have been included/excluded.

No Christy Moore, no Dubliners (Thin Lizzy’s version of their classic song even beats them in the top ten), no Cranberries, no Boomtown Rats, no Corrs, the list of non-runners is endless.

Here are the top ten Irish songs of all time:

  1. The Pogues – Fairytale of New York
  2. Aslan – Crazy World
  3. Irish Italia 90 Squad – Put em under Pressure
  4. The Frank and Walters – After All
  5. Thin Lizzy – Whiskey in the Jar
  6. Bagatelle – Summer in Dublin
  7. Aslan – This Is
  8. U2 – One
  9. Pat Shortt – Jumbo Breakfast Roll
  10. The Golden Horde – Friends in Time

What songs would you have in the top ten list? Let us know in the comments.
