TV reality star Gemma Collins has been getting some serious abuse online for mispronouncing the word “meme” – a word used to describe viral content online:
“Thank you for all the memes you’ve done for me this week,” she told her fans in a video posted on Twitter late last month:
Thank you for all your memes I LOVE you all ???????????????????????? pic.twitter.com/GwgnsWTYPS

In the clip, Gemma Collins pronounced the word “meme” as “may may,” which caused an absolute wave of online mocking – and even a tongue-in-cheek Gemma Collins Meme Appreciation Night on Facebook.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary the correct pronunciation is “meem:”
She doesn’t help herself does she????????????????

The episode has caused debate around other internet terms as well. According to the creator of Gif graphics, it should be pronounced ‘jiff’ rather than ‘giff’ – who knew!
