In need of some midweek entertainment? RTÉ has ya covered with their midweek movie offering and this week’s film is none other than I, Tonya.
Haven’t seen it? Here’s a brief synopsis.
Starring Margot Robbie as the title character (she also produced the movie – talented lady), the movie tells the life story of figure skater Tonya Harding and her ties to the 1994 attack on her skating rival Nancy Kerrigan. Rising through the ranks at the US Figure Skating Championships, Harding was one of the first women to perform a triple axel in competition however her future is quickly thrown into question when her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly gets involved.
And for the real kicker, the movie is based on true events – what some might call one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Boasting an impressive 89 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie comes highly rated with audiences.
Other big names to appear throughout include Allison Janney as LaVonna Golden (Harding’s mother) and Sebastian Stan as Jeff Gillooly.
