Irish Chaser Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis responds to suggestions that he’s been sacked

Irish chaser Darragh Ennis has responded to fan suggestions that he has been sacked from ITV quiz show The Chase just two months after making his debut.

An article in the Liverpool Echo addressed fan concerns that Dubliner Darragh Ennis had been sacked from The Chase having been absent from the daytime quiz show for a while.

The piece referenced a number of tweets posted by fans which fuelled speculation that Darragh, a scientist whose nickname on the show is ‘The Menace,’ would no longer be appearing. One Twitter user had said that ‘the new guy is never on!’ while another added questioned ‘have they sacked the Menace?’

However, Darragh has this afternoon moved to quash the rumours by taking to Twitter to say: ‘Sigh. I’ve not been sacked. The nature of random scheduling means sometimes we don’t have a show air for a little while, and sometimes we’re on two or three times in a week.’

Well, that’s a relief. Darragh made his debut as a chaser on The Chase back in November, having previously appeared as a contestant when he obviously impressed producers enough to give him a permanent gig. While he did join too late to appear on last week’s run of primetime spin-off Beat The Chasers, he kept followers entertained by live tweeting his views on the episodes each night.

Despite the rumours, it seems like we’ll be seeing a lot more of The Menace on our screens in the future and in the meantime, you can follow him on Twitter here.
