Irish Employer Asked Staff For Photos As “Proof” They Couldn’t Come Into Work

Sarah

Ahhh here. Think you had it bad working from home yesterday in the comfort that your employer trusts you couldn’t risk the snow?

Have a bit of sympathy for the staff of an unnamed Irish company that were asked to send in photos of their roads outside as proof they couldn’t come into the office.

The screenshot of an email was posted to Irish Reddit and appears to be from a large nationwide company with multiple locations across Ireland.

While we can appreciate that conditions were worse in some areas, surely employers should understand that it’s a STATUS RED weather warning out there?! Even yesterday morning it was forecast that things were gonna turn pretty grim on the weather front.

Naturally, people went ape in the comments…

“Scumbags.”

“Like the road outside your house is exactly the same as the whole route. You might live in a nice sheltered street and not be too bad off but have to travel on roads worse off to get there.

“That’s why looking at the weather outside your window isn’t enough and people should heed warnings. I’d love to know how liable this company would be if someone got in an accident out on the roads tomorrow because of this.”

Irish businesses will lose out on money due to Storm Emma, but that’s not as bad as people possibly losing their lives. Stay home, and stay safe.
