Charlie Lawson, best known to soap fans as Coronation Street‘s Jim McDonald, has raised a few chuckles with his online antics in recent times.
Take, for example, his battle cries while following his beloved Northern Ireland football team during Euro 2016 in France.
While most of his posts seem to be intended in good spirit, the Co. Fermanagh actor is no stranger to controversy and last night he posted a tweet which hasn’t gone down well in some parts. Retweeting an Irish language video posted by the official GAA account of Donegal’s Paddy McBrearty kicking a point against Kerry yesterday, Charlie said:
‘Sorry, what the fuck is an Irish language act going to do in promoting harmony, because as far as I’m concerned, that guy could have been asking me if I wanted a sherry in me Bloody Mary, whilst watching some weird game from I dunno where!!’

While we all know Jim was fond of a Bloody Mary or two during his time in Weatherfield, we can confirm that the clip in question featured no mention of the drink.
Also, it’s called Gaelic Football, Charlie, but given that Fermanagh were knocked out in the All-Ireland qualifiers last year, we’ll forgive ya for not having much memory of it.
Finally, it makes you wonder why Charlie is keeping up with the GAA on Twitter if he has no interest in the sport.
People responding to the tweet were quick to shoot Charlie, and indeed Jim, down.
Sure it’s only a bit of craic, so it is.
