All eyes will be on Washington this week, hopefully for different reasons to a fortnight ago, as the Joe Biden Inauguration gets underway at the United States Capitol.
Security in Washington D.C. is being stepped up ahead of the Joe Biden Inauguration on Wednesday, during which the 78-year-old will be officially confirmed as the 46th President of the United States.
After the scenes at the same building on January 6, authorities will be hoping that a repeat won’t take place. As well as that, the coronavirus pandemic that has killed over 300,000 people in the United States should lead to a more low-key affair than previous Presidential Inaugurations.
That said, viewers across the globe will still be looking to tune in and below you find details of how to do so in Ireland…
How can viewers in Ireland watch the Joe Biden Inauguration?
RTÉ will be covering the Joe Biden Inauguration live, with Washington correspondent Brian O’Donovan keeping us all up to date with news from the ground, while Caitríona Perry pulls the strings in the Dublin studio. A panel of expert guests are also being lined up to offer their insight on proceedings.
If you’d like the get the view from across the pond, you can also watch the event on ABC, CBS and CNN, where our very own Donie O’Sullivan is sure to be on hand to guide us through.

RTÉ’s coverage will begin at 4pm Irish time and will wrap up at about 5.40pm. The ceremony will begin at around 4.30pm when Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn into office.
Who’s providing the tunes?
There will be plenty of entertainment on offer, with Lady Gaga singing the national anthem as well as performances Jennifer Lopez and Garth Brooks.
That’s not enough. We want more craic…
Okay then. At around 1.30am on Thursday morning Irish time, you can catch Tom Hanks hosting Celebrating America, an entertainment special that should appeal to the music-loving night owls on our shores. The likes of Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Ant Clemons and Jon Bon Jovi are all lined up to keep you going throughout the night.
