The Late Late Will Revisit Its Most Iconic Moment This Week And RTÉ Is Looking For Audience Members

James Fenton

November 1993. The Republic Of Ireland soccer team had just booked their tickets to USA ’94, Meat Loaf was top of the charts with I Would Do Anything For Love and Mrs. Doubtfire had just been released in America.

Meanwhile, five young Dubliners with questionable dance moves were unleashed onto an unsuspecting public as Boyzone made their now infamous maiden appearance on The Late Late Show.

If you’re really out of the pop culture loop and have no idea what we’re talking about, you might want to check out the video below.

*Shudders.* Aaaaaaanyway, this Friday night the lads will return to where it all began as Ronan, Keith, Shane and Mikey chat to Ryan Tubridy about their life and times. However, they won’t be able to do it all themselves and RTÉ has made a call to the group’s army of loyal fans to appear as audience members on the show.

A Facebook post reads:

‘Boyzone are working their way back to The Late Late Show on Friday night. If you loved them for a reason, we want to know what the reason was.

‘Did you go to the extreme to meet the Boyz? Were you on stage at The Point? Did you sell the Christmas Turkey for their Christmas Number 1? Did you faint at their feet in your teens and now your Teens are embarrassed by your Boyzone dance moves?

‘Convince us that you should be reunited with Boyzone and you could be in the Late Late audience on Friday night. Email your stories and pictures to the latelateextra@rte.

‘All audience members must be over 18.’

With Stephen Gately having sadly passed away in 2009, his four bandmates have carried on and will embark on a farewell tour next year.

Reckon you love the lads enough to catch them on what could be their final Late Late appearance? Better get those applications in at the above address.
