“It Feels Grand!” – 98-Year-Old Limerick Fan Had His Dream Come True On Last Night’s ‘Late Late Show’

James Fenton

Every All-Ireland victory has its backstories and subplots that grab the attention of the Irish public. Whether it’s a player overcoming adversity to achieve their dream or the lengths a fan will go to support their county, it all adds the to drama and allows us to put the achievements of the winners into context.

One such story that caught the imagination of the Irish public this year was the one of John Hunt, a 98-year-old Limerick man from Chicago who travelled home to see the Shannonsiders claim a first Hurling Championship in 45 years.

John appeared on The Late Late Show last night and after host Ryan Turbridy chatted to Limerick manager John Kiely and captain Declan Hannon, he made his way over to have a word with their biggest fan.

Amazingly, John stated that he saw Limerick lift the Liam MacCarthy Cup as far back as 1936 before making his move to the Windy City. He had the audience in stitches with his tales of Limerick fandom, and when Ryan offered him the chance to lift the cup, he wasn’t going to turn it down.

Take a look at the brilliant moment below…

This is what it’s all about.
