LISTEN: Spiceboxes and Michael D. Higgins get name-checked on incredible song “Anseo”

Rory Cashin

Two incredible artists have collaborated on a late entry for best Irish song of 2020.

If you haven’t heard of Limerick-based, Zambian-Irish rapper Denise Chaila, then you should absolutely seek her out.

Having released her debut album GO Bravely in October, Chaila had already been having an incredible 2020, culminating in many publications listing her album and previous singles among the best of the year.

Releasing another single from the album this week, Chaila collaborated with fellow Irish rapper Jafaris on the single mix of Anseo, which Spotify featured incredibly highly in their New Release Friday playlist.

And with just cause, as the fantastically catchy track is filled with smartly funny and insightful lyrics, all working off a head-bop of a beat.

Featuring artist Jafaris told Hot Press about his work on the song:

“This song represents the mentality that I believe Ireland needs to adopt in order to be an example to the world. We have an opportunity to tackle the race issue that plagues our world by adding to the already potent culture that exists here through creativity, innovation and economics.

“I have ideas, so I shouted out my bro Michael D Higgins. Denise was already spreading a similar narrative and it only felt right to come together and express our views.”
