We’re in the middle of phase 3 of Ireland’s lockdown lifting roadmap and that means plenty of people traveled around the country over the weekend just gone.
One of those was Paul Mescal, star of 2020’s biggest TV hit Normal People, who was spotted wandering the streets of Dungarvan in Co. Waterford over the past few days.
The Kildare actor, who played Connell in the hugely-popular series, lived up to his nice guy reputation by happily posing for photographs, including one with Mayor of Waterford Damien Geoghegan.
Delighted to bump into @mescal_paul out for a walk in Dungarvan this evening! What an absolute gent! I told him he was the best Phantom of The Opera I ever saw! He told me he’s loving his visit to Waterford! An absolute gent! #NormalPeople #connellschain pic.twitter.com/g5QTgELsXt

Great to meet @mescal_paul on his holidays in my own town tonight. I will always have this absolutely authentic and in no way photoshopped photo to treasure. pic.twitter.com/hMd0BU8rjj

Of course, Mescal knows the importance of wearing a mask when out and about these days. It’s a just little bit of downtime for the 24-year-old who will soon be back on our screens in a short film called Drifting, more details of which you can be read here.
He will also be keeping a close eye on the voting for the Emmys, which opens today, with Normal People expected to come away with a few nominations. Paul will no doubt have the backing of the Déise County behind him after his little jaunt there over the weekend.
