Louis Theroux’s new four-part documentary gets underway tonight

James Fenton

Louis Theroux is back on our screens tonight with a new reflective documentary series called Life On The Edge.

Filmmaker Louis Theroux has been a staple on TV screens for the past couple of decades and tonight fans will get to reflect on his best moments by watching the first episode of Louis Theroux: Life On The Edge.

The four-part series will feature archive footage as well as new interviews with some of Theroux’s most memorable contributors. In tonight’s first edition, Louis will look back on his earliest documentaries and explore ‘how some people’s most fervent beliefs can bring them into conflict with mainstream society’.

Speaking about the new series, Louis said: “For years I’ve wanted to go back and make sense of the programmes I’ve made, find out what happened to some of the contributors, update their stories, and see what all these many hours of making TV might add up to.

He added that “lockdown gave me the time and space to do this. It’s been a strange and fascinating couple of months working on this, and especially fun to dig through old episodes of Weird Weekends – programmes I made in the mid-nineties, when the world was a very different place.”

The first episode of Louis Theroux: Life On The Edge gets underway tonight on BBC Two at 9pm.
