Get ready for peak nostalgia.

The nation’s sweetheart Mickey Joe Harte is coming out with his very own Christmas single.

Excited? Cus I sure am.

Best known for his iconic Eurovision performance, lest we forget the absolute bop that is We’ve Got The World, Mickey Joe Harte is also famed for his appearance on the Irish telly classic You’re A Star.

Releasing the track in aid of the Peter McVerry Trust, he’s teamed up with fellow Donegal native Rory Gallagher to record Yazoo’s Only You.

A stripped-down cover of the classic, the original was Yazoo’s first single back in the 80s. An instant success on the UK Singles Chart, it went on to reach the Top 10 in both Australia and Ireland as well.

And if it was acceptable in the 80s (another great tune, shout out to Calvin Harris), odds are it’s going to be just as popular this time around.

Hoping to encourage people to donate to charity ahead of Christmas, the song is in support of the Peter McVerry Trust.

A national housing and homeless charity, the organisation is committed to reducing homelessness and tackling the issues that surround it such as substance misuse and social disadvantage. Operating in four different counties (Dublin, Kildare, Louth and Meath), almost 6,000 people accessed the Peter McVerry Trust’s homeless services in 2018.

According to official statistics on homelessness, released by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, the figures for October reveal that over 10,500 people accessed emergency accommodation (almost 4,000 of whom were children).

Out this Friday, all proceeds go from the song will go directly to the Peter McVerry Trust. So, mark your calendars, set your alarms and turn the speaker to high.
