WATCH: You Missed A Fair Auld Session If You Didn’t Catch The Late Late Last Night

James Fenton

For centuries, Irish social gatherings have revolved having an auld sing-song and The Late Late Show kicked off this weekend in that same vein last night.

Promoting an RTÉ initiative to find Ireland’s favourite folk song, Ryan Tubridy invited Mary Black, Phelim Drew, Aoife Scott and Fiachna Ó Braonáin onto the show and sure enough they all brought their guitars with them.

In between discussions on the importance of music to Irish culture, they each treated the audience a few bars and it’s fair to say it all went down a treat.

A number of old favourites got an airing…

Eleanor McEvoy even emerged from the audience to perform A Woman’s Heart…

If we ever needed reminding of our grá for a tune then last night was it. A great way to get the weekend underway. If you want to nominate your favourite tune, you can do so here.
