Bombay Bicycle Club Announce Two Irish Gigs For The New Year

Sarah Finnan

Bombay Bicycle Club may have taken a brief hiatus from the music scene, but they’re back with plans for an Irish takeover.

The band took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce details of their fifth album along with UK and Ireland tour dates. The new album titled Everything Else Has Gone Wrong is set for release January 17 2020. Fans have been waiting for new music since 2014 so it’s not a moment too soon in our books.

Friends, ⁣ ⁣ It is with great joy that we can now announce that our new album is coming out on 17 January 2020. The album will be called Everything Else Has Gone Wrong. This is an album for anyone who’s ever turned to music in a time of crisis, whether personal or political. It’s about the solace one can get from listening to music or playing music when everything else in your life or the world has gone wrong. It’s about finding kernels of hope and renewal in dire situations. ⁣ ⁣ In January and February 2020, we will tour the UK and Ireland in support of the album and we’ll be joined on these dates by @commoonicate and @lizlawrencemusic. Playing together again is such an unexpected surprise for the 4 of us and yet from the first moment we started rehearsing it felt as natural as if we’d played a show the night before. We feel a freshness playing live that can only come from having taken a step back and now we just want to play these new songs to as many people in as many countries as we can. More shows will be announced very soon. ⁣ ⁣ For UK fans (ex-Belfast) if you pre-order the album via the official store by 17.00 on 10 September you’ll get 24-hour early access to our fan presale on 11 September. There are also lots of great bundles of merch that include the amazing album cover designed by @MariaMedem. ⁣ ⁣ Otherwise fan presale starts 10AM on 12 September via @DICEfm and for both the UK and Dublin general on-sale starts 10AM on 13 September. Almost every ticket on this tour is a digital ticket to try to ensure tickets end up in the hands of fans. Please don’t buy from secondary ticketing sites.⁣ ⁣ Finally, the video for Eat, Sleep, Wake is now out. It was conceived and directed by our great friend @LouisBhose, who has worked with us in a variety of ways for more than ten years. It is tongue-in-cheek but also conveys how much we’ve missed making music with each other. ⁣Link in bio to preorder the album, view tour dates & access presale and watch the video. ⁣ More to come. ⁣ ⁣ Lots of love, ⁣ ⁣ Bombay x

According to the band’s statement online: “This is an album for anyone who’s ever turned to music in a time of crisis, whether personal or political. It’s about the solace one can get from listening to music or playing music when everything else has gone wrong. It’s about finding kernels of hope and renewal in dire situations”.

The thirteen date UK and Ireland tour will coincide with the new album release so needless to say, the foursome will have a very busy new year. Two Irish gigs are amongst the line-up; one at Dublin’s Vicar Street on February 10 and the other at Belfast’s Ulster Hall on February 12 2020 with support coming from The Big Moon and Liz Lawrence.

The acclaimed-indie rock band played Electric Picnic in 2014 and made a grand return to the Irish festival scene with their set at All Together Now in August.

They followed that with a performance at Cork Opera House on August 3, their first gig in the rebel county in almost seven years! It seems that Bombay Bicycle Club have rediscovered their love for the Irish and luckily for us, we won’t have to wait as long for their next show.

Tickets go on sale at 10a.m. on September 13.
