Bird Box has been a runaway success ever since it dropped on Netflix over Christmas and is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about movies of the year.
It was watched by a record-breaking 45 million accounts in the first seven days of its release and has now sparked a bizarre new internet challenge.
The movie stars Sandra Bullock as a woman fighting for survival when mysterious creatures cause people who look at them to commit suicide – and as a result she is forced to navigate an incredibly dangerous journey while blindfolded.
The streaming giant has now been forced to issue a warning over the insane ‘Bird Box Challenge’ that’s started to sweep across the internet.

#BirdBoxChallenge Sounds like another stupid thing to do for internet fame, you guys eat tide pods, burn yourselves, blindfold yourselves, etc for the sake of a meme or internet challenge, yet you get offended when people call you sheep. ffs.

The bizarre challenge involves people trying to do everyday tasks while blindfolded just like the characters in the film and has reportedly resulted in several injuries already.
Netflix tweeted, ‘Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE.
‘We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.’
