Netflix release the first trailer for their incredibly topical movie The Trial Of The Chicago 7

Rory Cashin

From the creator of The Social Network and featuring an all-star cast, this will be an absolute must-watch.

Dealing with a series of protests that essentially brought parts of America to a standstill in 1968, it is difficult to imagine that The Trial Of The Chicago 7 could be released at a more timely moment, considering that America is currently home to some similarly impassioned protests.

Writer and director Aaron Sorkin has previously given us some amazing based-on-true-story projects, from The Social Network to Moneyball to Steve Jobs, but even those heavy-hitting awards-magnets pale in the current significance of this movie, and he’s assembled an absolutely incredibly stacked cast to bring it all to life.

The trial of the title involves a group of activists who were accused of conspiracy and incitement to riot following the hugely destructive 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Eddie Redmayne (Fantastic Beasts), Jeremy Strong (Succession), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception), Mark Rylance (Ready Player One), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) all feature, as well as what looks to be a steal-scening turn by Sasha Baron Cohen (Borat). Between that cast and the folk behind the camera, Netflix could be on to a big Oscar contender.

The Trial Of The Chicago 7 will arrive on Netflix from Friday 16 October, and you can check out the first official trailer for the movie right here:
